Distracted driving may have caused crash that killed three

On Behalf of | Jan 16, 2020 | Truck Accidents |

The threat posed by semi-trucks is often magnified by their size and speed. Any lack of attention by the drivers of these big rigs could become the cause of serious multi-vehicle accidents. A recent truck accident on I-65, northwest of Indianapolis, demonstrated how the failure of a truck driver to pay attention can have disastrous results.

According to the truck driver, he was headed north on I-65 when he glanced down to replace his coffee mug in its holder. When he looked up, he was approaching slow moving traffic and was unable to stop his truck. The semi collided with the line of vehicles ahead of him. One vehicle was pinned against the guard rail, and a second vehicle was pushed over the guard rail. According to police, the semi hit and caused serious damage to eight vehicles. A fire broke out soon after the initial collision, but the flames did not appear to injure anyone.

When police arrived, they found two young women and an infant in the vehicle that was pinned against the guard rail. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. An additional fourteen individuals were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi is facing three charges of reckless homicide.

Anyone who has suffered an injury or lost a loved one in a similar accident may wish to consult an experienced attorney for an analysis of the evidence and an estimation of the likelihood of recovering damages for medical expenses, lost income and pain and suffering.
